Starting Solids
In 2026: The New Rules
"The science has changed. Early allergen introduction is now a critical milestone."
1. The "Early Intro" Shift
Before 2015, parents were told to wait until 1-3 years for allergens. Modern trials like **LEAP** and **EAT** have proven that introducing potential triggers between 4-6 months significantly reduces the lifelong risk of food allergies. Our planner schedules these triggers strategically within the first 12 weeks of solids.
2. Iron-Rich Beginnings
Baby's natural iron stores begin to deplete around 6 months. That's why we include iron-fortified oats, well-cooked egg yolks, and green vegetables early in our food schedule. Feeding isn't just about calories; it's about developmental mineral support.
Your Questions Answered
?Is 4 months too early to start solids?
"While the AAP recommends 6 months for most, they also support allergen exposure from 4 months for babies at high risk of allergies. Always consult your pediatrician if starting before 6 months."
?How many times a day should we feed solids?
"Start with once a day. For the first few weeks, the goal is exposure and texture development, not full caloric intake (milk is still primary)."
?What should I do if I suspect an allergic reaction?
"Stop the trigger food immediately. For mild symptoms (hives, rash), consult your doctor within 24 hours. For severe symptoms (vomiting, swelling, breathing difficulty), seek emergency care."
